Alabaster Hand-Knotted Rug
Alabaster Hand-Knotted Rug explores organic movement and earthen texture. Defined by a soft, mottled surface with subtle, horizontal shifts in warm beige, it brings a quiet, composed element to the architecture of a room.
Woven to commission, the piece is hand-knotted using a specific blend of 80% New Zealand wool and 20% bamboo silk. Individual knots are placed by hand onto a vertical warp foundation. The dense, matte weight of the New Zealand wool provides structural depth, while the bamboo silk traces the subtle variations in tone, catching the ambient light and bringing a quiet shift to the surface.
From the careful selection of raw fibre to the final hand-shearing of the pile, the work demands patience. Months in the making, with no shortcuts taken, this piece provides a settled, resilient foundation that wears well through decades of daily use.
